In terms of 'brand identity', I have closely observed Ellie Goulding's album cover 'Lights' alongside two of her music videos and personally feel there is a fairly good link between the 3 products.
ARTIST: ELLIE GOULDING
ALBUM COVER NAME: LIGHTS
I have defined the main key features of 'Lights' album cover to be:
Main colours used are black, white, gold, brown, silver & peach
The theme is seen to symbolise the galaxy/ out of space (sci-fi) also can be represented as surrealistic
The artist is seen as centre of attention which helps the audience to fully identify her image (Angelic/ fairy like)
The bold 'glowing' font of the artist's/album cover name compliments the glittered theme
MUSIC VIDEO 1: STARRY EYED
I have defined the main key features of 'Starry eyed' music video to be:
Repeated colour palette, particularly of blacks, golds, browns, silvers & whites
Theme of galaxy/sparkly with a sci-fi perspective is seen in the video, strongly reflecting what we see on the album cover
Vast amount of close-ups show the artist's signiture style (blonde wavy hair & natural make up)
Obvious edits and special effects in the video also reflect the editing on the album cover.
In relation to how 'Starry Eyed' is portrayed, in comparison to the album cover there is a very strong link as there is a clear identification that the song of the video was clearly apart of 'Lights' album through the use of similar theme & colours.
MUSIC VIDEO 2: LIGHTS
I have defined the main key features of 'Lights' music video to be:
Repitition of colours, as we saw in the previous 2 products. However specifically centered around blacks, whites & silvers
Apart of the sci-fi theme is repeated, but presented as majorly bold with more colours included (which slightly differed from the previous two)
We see the main performer with the same hairstyle as the album cover throughout
Ellie Gouldings 'Lights' music video shows more complexity in comparion to 'Starry eyed' and the album cover.
This shows to the audience that the artist wanted to take a different outlook from what we see on the album cover.
In a conclusion, my analysation of Ellie Goulding's album "Lights" clearly shows a good link through the album cover and two music videos, "Starry Eyed" and "Lights" as I was able to identify four main elements that were featured across all 3 products which created her brand identity.
